Cambridge Rehabilitation Unit

How our service can help you

The Cambridge Rehabilitation Unit (CRU) - formerly the Lord Byron wards - is a 20-bed inpatient facility, providing rehabilitation, long-term condition treatment/management for patients with complex needs.

The unit helps prevent unnecessary admissions to an acute hospital and supports people who are well enough to leave hospital, but haven't recovered enough to return to where they live. Day-to-day medical cover is provided by local GPs and the medical team is complemented by a consultant geriatrician.

The unit's multi-disciplinary team assess patients to identify treatment goals and agree a provisional length of stay when they are admitted. These goals are then reviewed and progress charted each week. Discharge planning starts on admission so that complex issues are addressed. Patients and their families are encouraged to take an active part in planning and working together to achieve the best outcome possible. If necessary, referrals are made to other agencies or professionals to support patients when they are discharged.
